Where does your motivation come from?

I am fascinated this week by the fact that many people believe that work and home life should be kept separate. Today I was busy in the front garden with my children who were actively helping me pick the weeds out of the block paving. A neighbour passed and said ” I wish my children were that helpful.” I smiled and said ” I am lucky, they are great”

It was not the time or place to mention they were being paid. Like adults children need motivating. But whether you are talking about your family or your business. How do you know what motivates you and those around you. One thing I have learned is that we are all very different.

When I ask my clients how I could thank them for the referrals they have made to me. Some asked for a referral fee, others were almost offended at the thought. However a meal out was definitely ok. Some just wanted some of my time.

Are you making too many assumptions and trying to reward the people around you with the kind of reward they would like or is it the reward you would like.

After listening to a great talk by Nigel and Jenny Heath from The Relationship People last week at the Concorde Ladies Business Lunch. I was reminded that some people are motivated towards things and others away.

I would love to hear your thoughts

Thank you for Listening

About Step by Step Listening

I am the founder of Step by Step Listening and we started as a company that eradicated fear of failure and guilt for mums, we coached mums and daughters, we then worked with sole trader and small business owners and over the years we developed a unique ability to help people create the family or business they desire by being able to tap into the resource of being able to sell ideas/prodcuts/visions/services in a way that feels right and gets results. For some they are learning to sell and idea to themselves perhaps a dream or an ambition they have had for years, for others it could be selling responsibility and independence to a teenager or perhaps selling a vision or a change of structure to a team. What ever it is we use unique a unique facilitation and group process to help you discover when you are selling in a way that feels right that's like what?
