Are you cat or lion?

Hi

Well is this book going to be worth it oh yes!! I am only 3 interviews in and I  havealready been reminded of some vital points about being in business through a recession.

Here is my interview with Penny Gregory of Penny Gregory Interiors an expert in helping you make your home look just the way you would like it to.

Penny being a sole trader in a recession – that’s like what?

Penny says “It is like tightening your belt.   You have to look after the pennies rather than the pounds.

Work used to just ‘come in’ but now you have to be focussed and looking for it. It is a bit like – before you might have been like a content cat curled up in front of the fire and business just came to you.

But during the recession you have to get that hunger.   A bit like an animal that hunts.  To be really effective they have to be really hungry. I guess in a recession you are in fact more effective.

So the positive side of being in a business in a recession is that you do:

• pull in the belt
• watch the pennies
• get hungry for business
• and work smarter
• look after your existing clients like royalty
• source clients in an economical way
• cash flow is monitored more accurately

And it can still be fun and profitable.”

When I asked Penny – “when you work with Step by Step Listening and you are a business in a recession that’s like what?”

She said.  “It helps me to focus on what I need to achieve it provides me with the psychological support.   By definition sole trader says that you are on your own.  So it is like joining together, sharing experiences and encouraging.

It is a bit like having your own staff room.  A place where you can discuss and share and you know it will stay in that staff room.

Other members of staff have really great ideas and they can ask you clever questions.

The staff room is a comfortable, safe and confidential place. It is like having the benefits of a larger organisation without the hassles.

The group gives me the motivation to be focussed and to hunt for my clients and the opportunity to curl up like a contented cat while celebrating my achievements.

Thank you Penny for taking the time to share with me. I am most definitely going to get the balance of contented cat and hunting animal

About Step by Step Listening

I am the founder of Step by Step Listening and we started as a company that eradicated fear of failure and guilt for mums, we coached mums and daughters, we then worked with sole trader and small business owners and over the years we developed a unique ability to help people create the family or business they desire by being able to tap into the resource of being able to sell ideas/prodcuts/visions/services in a way that feels right and gets results. For some they are learning to sell and idea to themselves perhaps a dream or an ambition they have had for years, for others it could be selling responsibility and independence to a teenager or perhaps selling a vision or a change of structure to a team. What ever it is we use unique a unique facilitation and group process to help you discover when you are selling in a way that feels right that's like what?
